Digital Marketing is a vast field and new abbreviations, acronyms, terms being added in this due to new methodology & research is done every day. Here, I am trying to keep updating the Digital marketing (SEO, SEM, Social Media, Affiliates & more) abbreviations, acronyms and terms which are used in my blogs.

200 OK: 200 OK is the HTTP status code that requested web-page is succeeded. The status is checked by the webmaster to know the status of the web-pages.
301 Redirect (Redirection): 301 redirect is a permanent redirection from older URL to newer URL and passes almost complete SEO page value (link equity, ranking power, etc) of older URL to newer URL. 301 redirection redirects website visitors and Search Engines bots to newer URLs and tell them that older URL is now completely redirected to new URL. 301 redirect can implement through .htaccess file, hosting server or header code.
302 Redirect (Redirection): 302 redirection is not permanent redirection, although it redirects website visitors and Search Engine bots to newer URLs from older URLs. 302 redirect doesn’t pass the SEO page value (link equity, ranking power, etc) of older URL to a new URL. It is our SEO advice that goes with 302 redirects if URL changes are permanent.
404 Error: 404 is an HTTP status code in which the request page doesn’t exist. The error message 404 Page not found comes when a visitor tries to go to access a web page that does not exist.
Above the Fold Content: Above the fold content is very important after the launch of the Google Page Layout Algorithm in 2012. After that Google lower down rankings of the website which were showing too many ads in the first of the mobile as well as desktop. As per https://www.betterads.org, Ads can’t take more than 30% web-state on the first screen.
Ad Extensions: Ad extension functionality is available on Google Ads & Bing Ads. An ad extension is showing expanded ads to make your ad stand out from the other competitors. It is also helpful in giving more information and option to web searchers. Due to relevant & accurate Ads Extension, the digital marketing team gets more clicks with better CTR and more business & revenue. There are various Ad extensions are available on Google & Bing Ads and digital marketing team can choose according to their requirements.

Ad Network: Advertising network (ad network) is an organization that connects the advertisers to publishers. One of the most important functions of the ad network is to aggregate the ad supply from publishers and match this inventory as per the advertiser’s demand.
Adsense (Google Adsense): Google Adsense is an Ad platform by Google that allows website owners to earn money by publishing Google network ads on their website.

Alt Text (or Alternative Text): Alt is an attribute added to the HTML code for images that describes the image. The Alt tag can be read by the screen reader and also helpful for the vision impaired website visitors if they are listening to the web-page.
Analytics (or Google Analytics) – Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool by Google which tracks website traffic and other useful information about the users.
Anchor Text: Anchor text is visible, clickable and blue color text in a hyperlink. By default, colour of anchor text is blue and text is underlined but using CSS or HTML, it can be changed to any colour with or without underline. In digital marketing, it is very important to track the clicks on Anchor text. Also, Anchor is a very important factor from an SEO point of view as it should be on relevant keyword and linking to the right landing page URL. In the blow syntax, “DigitalGain is Best” is Anchor text.

Algorithm: Algorithms are a step by step process of solving the logical & mathematical problems. In other words, you can say that the Algorithm is a set of rules to perform a task. In digital marketing, Google Algorithms updates are widely popular to rank millions of websites on the search engine. In addition to that search engine, many companies utilizing the power of different algorithms or writing their own algorithms to solve real-life problems.
Algorithm Update: Here, we are referring changes in the Google algorithm as an algorithm update. Generally, the SEO community follows Google algorithm update as it is typically affecting the website rankings in the search engine.

B2C: The full form of B2C is business to consumers where a business sells products & services to the end-users.
BackLink: Backlink is also known as off-page or link building activity. Backlinks are created when one website hyperlinks to another website URL using an HTML href code. Banner Ad: It’s an advertisement displayed on Web (Desktop /M-Web) and app in the form of JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF or similar multimedia assets. Banners Ads can be delivered through an in-house system or ad-server. The main metrics for banner ads are impression, impression share, and clicks.
Black Hat: Black Hat is SEO (Search engine optimization) practices that violate Google’s quality guidelines. Many SEO in this world try to manipulate Search Engine rankings by implementing Black Hat SEO techniques.
Bing: Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft Corporation and the website URL is www.Bing.com.
Bing Ads: Bing Ads is Microsoft Advertising service which provides advertising opportunity to run pay per click ads on Bing and Yahoo search engines.
Blog: A blog or weblog is an informational website displaying the latest post always on the top. The blog can be private (personal) or public and can be created on your owned domain or some free blog websites e.g. WordPress and Blogger. Blog content can be written and posted by an individual blogger or group of bloggers. The owner of the blog can also block the search engines from crawling their blog content using different SEO tactics. Blogger: A person who writes a blog.
Bot: A bot is an automated program that crawls web pages for quick indexing, collecting the data and information. Generally search engine bots prefer quality & informative content on web-pages.
Bounce Rate: Bounce is the percentage of single-page sessions (visits) in which there is no interaction with other pages. For example, out of 100 sessions, 55 are single-page sessions then the bounce rate of that page is 55%. The bounce rate of the overall website and individual pages of the same website can be different. Bounce rate is one of the important SEO ranking factors to rank the website in Google and other major search engines.
Clicks (in Google Webmaster – Search Console): Clicks in Google Webmasters Tool (Search Console) is the number of hits by Users (Existing or New) on your website pages when it is appearing in the Google Search Engine result pages (SERPs) for the keyword search queries.
CPC (Cost Per Click)
CPA (Cost Per Acquisition): CPA is calculated based upon how much it costs to acquire one customer. Formula to calculate CPA is Total Cost divided by Number of Conversions. It is one of the most important business metrics to run any digital marketing campaign as bringing CPA down is the main responsibility of the digital marketing team.
CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization)
CTA (Call to Action): CTA is an element on the Web/M-Web/App which is used to influence the visitor to perform an action or conversion. A click to action (CTA) element can be a clickable button, image, link or other elements. General content on CTAs are “Download Now”, “Signup Now”, “Buy Now”, “Free Registration” or more.
CTR – Click Through Rate (in Google Webmaster – Search Console): The full form of CTR is Click Through Rate. It is calculated based upon Clicks divided by Impression in Google Search Console. You can calculate the CTR of individual queries, set of queries or all the search queries. For example, if your website gets 30 clicks and 1000 impression then CTR is 3% (300/1000).

Impressions (in Google Webmaster – Search Console): Impressions in Google Webmasters Tool (Search Console) is the number times your website pages appeared in the Google Search Engine result pages (SERPs) for the keywords search queries.
Impressions (Google Adwords):
Keywords: Keywords are the most important thing in the world of digital marketing. Keywords define the topics and ideas about the website content. In Search Engine Optimization (SEO), these are phrases that searchers enter in search engines also known as SEO queries. In digital marketing, if you are able to find out the right keywords for your target audience then your success is sure else if won’t be easy to get a satisfactory return on digital marketing team efforts.
Keyword Density: Keyword density is the number of occurrence of keywords in 100-word content. For example, if keywords are appearing 5 times in a 100-word article then keyword density is 5% for that keyword. It is calculated as a keyword occurrence divided by total word count and then multiply by 100.

Manual Penalty: It is a manual action by Google where a human reviewer checks website page(s) that might prevent it from appearing in Google Search.

Sessions: By default, Session is a time interval in which website visitors can do multiple activities on the website and it ends in 30 minutes of inactivity. If a visitor comes on the same website multiple times with 30 minutes then this is counted in the same session.
Search Query: Search Query or Query refers to the term which typed by the User in Search Bar. A set of search queries is helpful for an analyst to understand user behavior and their search intent.
URL: The full form of URL is Uniform Resource Locator and it is the address of the web-pages. URL is the form of URI and a naming convention to addressing the path. URL word is used daily by digital marketing professionals.
White Hat SEO: White Hat SEO is the process of implementing website optimization planning, strategies, techniques to focus on the human audience but not only search engines. In White Hat SEO practices, all the SEO activities should be inlined with Search engines and their policies.

YouTube: It is a video-sharing website started in 2005. It is also known as the world’s second-largest search engine but it searches for videos uploaded on the Youtube platform only. The status of Videos should always be “Public”.
Youtube Subscribers: Youtube subscriber is one of the important factor to understand the reach of channel. In Youtube when any viewer has chosen to follow the channel became Subscribers.
